The Water Filtration Myth
One of the most persistent misconceptions about shisha is that the water in the pipe filters out the harmful substances in tobacco smoke. Water does cool the smoke, making it feel smoother and less harsh. However, it does not significantly filter nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide or other toxicants. Studies have consistently shown that smokers who believe water filtration makes shisha safer are mistaken.
