How to Set Up a Pod Vape Kit for the First Time

Setting up a pod kit for the first time takes around five minutes. The process is the same for almost every refillable pod kit on the market: charge, fill, prime, wait and vape. Get this order right and your first draw will taste exactly as it should.

Step-by-Step Setup: Refillable Pod Kit

Charge the Battery First

Connect the USB-C cable from the charging port on the battery to a standard USB power source such as a laptop, a mains adapter or a power bank. Most modern pod kits charge from around 20% battery in 30 to 60 minutes. The LED indicator light on the device will typically turn solid or switch off when the charge is complete. Avoid using a high-wattage phone fast charger for your pod kit as the high current can degrade a small vape battery more quickly than a standard USB output.

Remove the Pod and Open the Fill Port

Once filled, press the rubber bung firmly back into the port until it sits flush with the pod surface. Wipe any drips from the outside of the pod with a tissue.

This is the most important step and the one most often skipped. Leave the pod to sit for five to ten minutes before taking your first puff. This allows the cotton wick inside the coil to absorb e-liquid from the pod reservoir fully. A wick that is not yet saturated will scorch the moment the coil fires, producing a harsh burnt taste that does not recover even after the wick eventually absorbs liquid.

Turn On the Device and Take Your First Draw

If your pod kit has a fire button, press it five times rapidly within two seconds to turn the device on. The LED will flash to confirm activation. Draw-activated devices with no button are already active once the pod is inserted. Take a slow, steady MTL draw: pull vapour gently into your mouth over two to three seconds, pause briefly, then inhale from the mouth into the lungs. Avoid sharp, hard drags. Hard inhales on a pod kit produce condensation in the airflow channel that can cause gurgling. Steady, controlled draws give the best flavour and the most consistent nicotine delivery.
