Why Is My Pod Kit Leaking and How Do You Fix It?
Pod kit leaking is frustrating but nearly always caused by a small number of fixable issues. Overfilling, an improperly sealed fill port, a worn coil, using the wrong e-liquid format or storing the device on its side account for the vast majority of pod kit leaks.

What happens: The most common cause of leaking in side-fill pod kits. If the rubber bung is not pressed fully flat after filling, even a tiny gap allows liquid to seep out steadily. The leak usually appears as liquid collecting at the base of the pod or on the battery contacts below.
The fix: Remove the pod. Check the rubber bung on the fill port. Press it firmly down with your fingertip until it sits completely flat and flush with the pod wall surface. Run your fingertip across it. Any raised edge or unevenness means the seal is not complete. Reinsert the pod and place the device upright on a tissue to confirm the leak has stopped. If it continues despite a correctly sealed bung the pod body may have a crack. Hold it up to the light to check.
Cause 2: Overfilling the Pod
What happens: Filling the pod past the maximum fill line or all the way to the brim displaces the air pocket at the top of the reservoir. Without that air pocket the positive pressure created when the device warms up during use has nowhere to go except through the coil and airflow channel. The result is liquid pushed out through the base of the device or the mouthpiece.
The fix: Open the fill port and use a tissue to remove a small amount of liquid from the pod. Reseal the port, leaving a visible air gap at the top of the reservoir. Going forward, stop filling at approximately 90% of pod capacity every time. If your pod has a maximum fill line marked on the chamber wall, stop at that line.

Cause 3: Worn or End-of-Life Coil
What happens: A coil that has reached the end of its useful life has degraded cotton that can no longer properly absorb and hold e-liquid. Liquid that the cotton cannot absorb pools in the coil chamber and leaks out through the airflow ports at the base of the device or floods up through the mouthpiece. A worn coil also often produces a burnt or muted flavour before it begins leaking.
The fix: Replace the pod or coil head. Check the tell-tale signs: if the liquid in the pod has turned dark brown, if flavour has become noticeably flat or burnt or if gurgling is persistent, the coil has degraded. A new pod with correct priming will stop the leak immediately if a worn coil was the cause.

What happens: High-VG shortfill liquid (70:30 VG or above) is too thick to wick through the small cotton ports in MTL pod coils. The cotton cannot absorb it fast enough between puffs, leaving liquid pooling in the base of the coil chamber rather than staying in the pod reservoir. This pooled liquid then leaks out through the airflow ports or base of the device.

What happens: When a filled pod kit is stored horizontally or upside down, gravity draws e-liquid toward the coil chamber and airflow channel rather than keeping it in the reservoir above the coil. Over time this saturates the cotton beyond its holding capacity and liquid finds its way out through the airflow ports at the base.
The fix: Store the pod kit upright at all times when not in use. Stand it on a desk or table rather than placing it in a bag sideways. If you carry the device in a bag or pocket, the pod typically sits upright in a jacket or trouser pocket but lies on its side in a bag. Consider a small case or stand it in a side pocket where it stays vertical.
