Why Is My Pod Kit Not Producing Vapour?

When a pod kit stops producing vapour the cause is almost always one of four things: the battery needs charging, the pod is not making proper contact with the battery, the coil is at end of life or the airflow is blocked. Work through these checks in order and you will find the problem.

Quick answer: Start with the simplest check first. Is the battery charged? Connect it to the charger and see if the LED responds. If the battery is fine, remove the pod and reinsert it firmly to ensure proper magnetic contact. Wipe the contact points on both pod and battery with a dry tissue. Try a different pod if one is available. If none of these fix it, the coil is likely at end of life and the pod needs replacing. Work through the steps below in order rather than assuming a fault.

Step 1: Check the Battery

A flat or nearly flat battery is the most common reason a pod kit produces little or no vapour. Even if the LED appears to show some charge remaining, a low battery may not deliver enough current to heat the coil effectively.

What to do: Connect the USB-C cable to a charger and leave for 30 to 60 minutes. If the LED turns on and responds to the charger, the battery was the issue. After a full charge, test the device again. If the device does not respond to the charger at all, check the cable and try a different USB-C cable and port before concluding the device has a charging fault.

For button-activated devices, also check the device is switched on. Five rapid clicks of the fire button within two seconds toggles the device on and off. The LED will flash to confirm which state the device has entered. A device that is turned off will not fire even with a full battery.

Step 2: Check the Pod Connection

If the battery is charged but the device still produces no vapour, the pod may not be making proper electrical contact with the battery. E-liquid residue on the metal contact points is a very common cause of intermittent or total loss of firing.

What to do: Remove the pod from the battery. Look at the contact points on the underside of the pod and inside the battery pod seat. Wipe both surfaces with a dry tissue or a dry cotton bud. Remove any visible e-liquid residue, dust or lint. Reinsert the pod firmly until you feel or hear it seat into the magnetic connection. If the device fires briefly when you press down on the pod during a draw, the contact is intermittent and the pod may need a firm reseat or the magnetic connection may be weakening.

Step 3: Check the Coil

A coil at end of life produces significantly less vapour than a fresh coil and in its final stages may produce almost nothing. The cotton wick degrades and can no longer vapourise liquid efficiently. A weak draw with minimal vapour, flat flavour or a faintly burnt taste alongside reduced vapour output all point to a coil that needs replacing.

What to do: Replace the pod or coil head. Prime the new pod for five to ten minutes after filling before drawing. If a fresh pod restores normal vapour production the coil was the cause. Also check the liquid level in the pod before replacing it. A pod that is nearly empty will produce reduced vapour as the cotton dries out before the last refill is used up.

Step 4: Check the Airflow

Some pod kits have an adjustable airflow slider or ring. If this has been accidentally moved to a closed or very restricted position it reduces or eliminates vapour production even when the device is otherwise functioning correctly. On draw-activated devices, the airflow sensor (a small hole in the device body) can occasionally become blocked with lint from a pocket.

What to do: Check any airflow adjustment on the device is in the open or partially open position. If the device uses draw activation, check the small airflow sensor hole on the side of the battery for blockages. A dry cotton bud or a wooden cocktail stick can clear lint from the sensor port gently without causing damage. Do not use metal objects in the sensor port.

Full No-Vapour Diagnosis Table

Symptom Most Likely Cause Fix
No vapour and no LED when drawing Battery fully flat or device turned off Charge the device. Check it is turned on (5 clicks)
LED lights up but no vapour Poor pod connection or blocked draw sensor Remove pod, clean contacts, reinsert firmly
Very weak vapour despite full battery and liquid End-of-life coil or low battery Replace the pod. Confirm battery is fully charged
Vapour only when pressing down on pod during draw Intermittent pod contact. Magnetic connection weakening Clean contacts. Replace pod. Consider new device if persistent
Weak vapour from a brand new pod Coil not primed. Cotton not yet saturated Wait 5 to 10 minutes after filling before first draw
No vapour from draw activation, fine on button Draw sensor blocked with lint Clear sensor port gently with a dry cotton bud
Vapour fine then stops mid-session Battery dropped below firing threshold mid-use Charge the battery

When to Consider a Device Replacement

Most no-vapour issues resolve with one of the fixes above. If you have worked through every step (confirmed the battery charges correctly, cleaned the contacts, tried a fresh pod and confirmed the airflow is clear) and the device still produces nothing, the most likely remaining cause is an internal fault with the battery circuit or the draw sensor. Pod kit batteries are sealed units that cannot be repaired. At that point the device itself needs replacing. Pod kits in the £10 to £25 range typically last six to eighteen months. If your device is over a year old and developing faults it has likely reached end of service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

My pod kit flashes when I draw but produces no vapour. What does this mean? A flashing LED during a draw usually signals a fault condition rather than normal operation. A rapid flash sequence typically indicates one of three things: the battery is too low to fire (usually three to five rapid flashes then nothing), there is a short circuit detected (the device detects an unusual reading from the pod, often caused by a defective pod or dirty contacts) or the coil resistance is outside the device's acceptable range (occasionally triggered by a coil head that is not seated correctly). Remove the pod, clean the contacts, reinsert a fresh pod and try again. If the same flash pattern continues with a different pod the battery circuit may have a fault.
My pod kit produced vapour yesterday but nothing today. What changed? Overnight failures are almost always battery or connection related. The battery may have drained completely if left uncharged. E-liquid condensation may have formed on the contact points while the device sat unused. Start with a charge. Then remove and reseat the pod after wiping the contacts clean. Condensation on internal contacts is particularly common when a device experiences temperature changes, such as being brought in from cold outdoor temperatures.
Why does my pod kit produce vapour for a few puffs then stop? Intermittent vapour production during a session is typically caused by either chain vaping (the cotton wick cannot re-saturate between rapid draws, causing brief dry firing) or a battery that is close to the minimum firing threshold and recovers briefly between puffs before dropping below it again. Pause 20 to 30 seconds between draws to allow the wick to re-saturate. If the problem persists even with pacing it is a battery charge issue and the device needs charging.
